I have a feeling this sudden urge to watch MP's Holy Grail will make Merlin somewhat more difficult to watch (or read) without giggling.

Okay, mini-break over

Why is it 33 degrees in October??

This semester is going to be weird. The teaching thing isn't all that difficult, just time-consuming, but the tension in the background is killing me. I'm not good with long-term, extended tension - it makes me more likely to do less. So the fact that everything that matters (grade-wise) isn't due until next year is really not helping that procrastination problem I've had since, well, high school.

I think all this shit is coming out in my dreams. )
In lighter news,I kind of adored the Psych fall finale )

Castle, Bones, and the Mentalist still make me smile, and Numb3rs is like that old friend that just feels comfortable, no matter where they go. I'm so far behind in Supernatural-land it's ridiculous - the last ep I watched was 4x07, so I'm nearly a season back. This will be fixed. (Fringe is in similar shape).

I think I have some Dreamwidth invite codes, if anyone wants.

How can they write an report that includes the explicit text of all the laws they've broken, as well as the actions they've undertaken to break these laws into tiny unrecognizable pieces, and expect not to be prosecuted???

Finally back in the country and back in the right state. Feels kinda nice, actually. Still bummed about some recent music-related events, but new Leverage season is making me a little bouncy - as is my recent surrender to the temptation that is Merlin. Trying to catch up on everything wizard/prince related is going to take awhile, I think.

Got a month to kill before the grind starts up again, so wish me luck on the thesis efforts that should help pass the time... (the Psych and Leverage DVDs should help too)

Going to see Star Trek in IMAX. 12:15 AM. I am way too restless for my own good right now. It might be a reaction to the grading (or, more likely, the grade complaints) I gave up my Friday night/Saturday morning to finish.

BBB posting starts Monday. Hee!!

A decade-long battle for marriage equality in Connecticut ended late Wednesday when the General Assembly voted to update the state's marriage laws to conform with a landmark court ruling allowing gay and lesbian couples to tie the knot.

New England must be an interesting place to live.

In other news, the sky has fallen, hell froze over, and I think I saw a flying pig this morning: Dick Cheney wants to declassify White House memos. This is the guy that made a living (for a really loong time) keeping everything secret. He blocked the VP's residence from Google Earth! He declared himself a sovereign entity in the government! I'd really rather he continued the practice of avoiding the media like he has for the past 8 years. Every time he opens his mouth...

Vermont lawmakers legalize gay marriage

Governor's veto is rejected; state becomes 4th in U.S. to take that path.

Is it wrong for me to hope for a domino effect here? Vermont's not as shocking as Iowa, but still. Yay!

I never thought I'd say this, but GO IOWA! See? Separate is not equal, no matter how pretty the language on your fancy amendment might be.

Commercials should not show bunnies mating with peanut butter jars and producing eggs with Let's Get it On playing in the background. It's way too early in the morning for that.

Happy April Fool's Day ladies and gents!

None. No, really.

Why is wanting this president to fail "loyal opposition" when wanting the last president to stop the whole war/torture thing was "betraying the country"?

Also, if I hear one more person - who clearly has access to the internet - say that socialism is the same as communism...

I've always loved the way certain lines in books, movies and fic just resonate in my head. It's why I read specific authors/series, and why my movie choices often seem eclectic but share striking similarities. It's why I love TV shows that focus on character development and continuity. Those lines are like a reward to the reader or viewer, and they always seem so subtle, so easy to miss, unless they connect like magic with a fact, or image, or memory.

I might possibly have a teaching position for the Spring. Maybe. Hopefully. I've also got a potential conference presentation, but we'll see how that goes.

When did all this academic stuff start to matter?? Usually I can sidetrack myself fairly easily - good book, good movie, fun fic - but lately it seems like school-related things are eating my brain!

On a side note, I just saw a Heroes/Futurama crossover. Nathan/Fry. The internet is truly a strange place.

Had a moment of intense panic today when I tried to register for classes for Spring. For a few minutes, our funky online registration system had me completely convinced that the class I really want to take next quarter was full. Stupid site.

But lo! I am registered!

Of course, I still have no idea what I'm teaching. Apparently that's secondary.
